OK, quite a long time of rendering later I have the video. The laser and table were imported into a new file so they could be scaled and positioned properly. Using 'autokey' at the bottom, I started the scene with the laser shooting to the table. The laser was then rotated so the beam slowly traced up the table's surface.
One problem that took a while to fix was the pivot point of the laser. I got the laser to shoot to the table no problem, but couldn't position the pivot properly to rotate the laser. In the end it turned out I didn't un-click the 'affect pivot only' button on a previous frame which messed it up. Live and learn. Here's the video...
Well that was disappointing for a very long render. Oh well, first attempt at animation in 3ds an' all that. Suppose it is expected. If this even makes it to my final video, it's still going to need characters and backgrounds!
I've been 3D modeling far too much today, so I am going to stop for now. This program is addictive :/
Very good work - you sure you've never touched Max before??? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say I haven't. Like I mentioned previously, tried Blender to make 1 or 2 models a few days before. I also had a go at Maya tutorials but only got as far as making a very blocky temple. I guess something just clicked?
ReplyDeleteJust to add to the comment above, I'm spending waaaay too much time on this program too. I find it very addictive!
